COVID-19 UPDATE 5/6: County death toll stays the same for almost two weeks

Despite one new confirmed COVID-19 case, Butler County's death toll has remained the same for nearly two weeks.

According to the state Department of Health report Wednesday, Butler County's total of confirmed COVID-19 death remained at six.

On April 20, the state reported the county had five deaths. On April 21, six deaths were reported. On April 22, Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine said the state would begin including probable COVID-19 deaths to its totals, bringing the county's death toll to seven.

The Department of Health backtracked on this idea the following day, bringing the county's death toll back to six on April 23, where it has remained for nearly two weeks.

As of Wednesday, Butler County remains in the red phase of Gov. Tom Wolf's shutdown, which includes asking people to stay at home and for nonessential businesses to stay closed.

Levine and Wolf said they will be using data this week to make decisions about changing more counties from red to yellow, as they did last week when they declared 24 counties would move into yellow beginning Friday.

“As we prepare to move a number of counties from red to yellow, we need all Pennsylvanians to continue to follow the social distancing and mitigation efforts in place,” Levine said.

The following data about the coronavirus pandemic are compiled daily from the Pennsylvania Department of Health's website and regular releases from Butler Health System.
