Woman pleads guilty in shooting case
PITTSBURGH — Lynne Agnew, whose trial for attempted murder was to start this week, instead pleaded guilty this morning and was sentenced to a state prison term of 9 to 20 years.
Agnew was charged with trying to kill her husband, Dr. D. Kelly Agnew, by shooting him multiple times in April 2009 at their Pine Township, Allegheny County, home. She also pleaded guilty to aggravated assault.
Dr. Agnew is an orthopedic surgeon who at the time of the shooting had a medical practice in Pittsburgh and saw patients at the Butler Bone & Joint Center on Clearview Circle in Center Township. He also was affiliated with both UPMC Passavant and Butler Memorial Hospital.
Police said Lynne Agnew, who had moved out of the house, returned and confronted her husband by shooting him.
She also sustained a gunshot wound, but police suspected that the shot was self-inflicted.
