Robert D. Sloan
Robert D. Sloan, 87, of Butler Township went home into the arms of his Lord Wednesday while under the care of Good Samaritan Hospice in Cabot.
Born Sept. 1, 1930, in Connoquenessing Township, he was the son of the late Harry Sloan and Clara Shiever Sloan.
Bob proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was a self-employed general contractor.
Bob belonged to Meridian Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder, trustee, Sunday School teacher and served on the building committee. He also was a member of Meridian Veterans Club. He will be dearly missed.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his children, Deborah (Carl) Rose of Butler, Greg (Patricia) Sloan of Butler, Brad Sloan of Hershey, Roger (Patricia) Sloan of Gibsonia and Lori (Donald) Smith of Butler; his 10 grandchildren, Kristen (Mitch) Kwiatkowski, Matthew (Juli) Rose, Jennifer (Tracy) Simpson, Michelle Sloan, Mark Sloan, Ryan Sloan, Kelsey Sloan, Rachel Sloan, Nathan Sloan and Zachary (Alyssa) Smith; three great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Ruth Spack of Butler, Mable Giles of Meadville, Lawrence Sloan of Prospect, Beryl (Edward) Gilliland of Prospect and Jean (Ernie) Oesterling of Butler.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanora Eppinger Sloan; his grandson, Matthew Cunningham; and his siblings, Clyde Sloan, Margaret Fassinger, Ralph Sloan, Harold Sloan and Ethel Kradel.
SLOAN — Friends of Robert D. Sloan, who died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Boylan Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 856 Evans City Road, Renfrew. The Meridian Vets Club will hold a service at 5:45 p.m. on Friday.A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Meridian Presbyterian Church, 4150 N. Highland Ave., Butler.
