Margaret E. Whitmire

Margaret Elva Whitmire, 88, formerly of West Sunbury, died at 11:55 a.m. Sunday at Concordia Lutheran Ministries Lund Care Center, Cabot.

Born May 21, 1917, in East Butler, she was the daughter of John T. and Susanna Margaret Boyle McDevitt.

She was a member of the Springdale Lutheran Church, where she had been church treasurer and a Sunday school teacher.

Mrs. Whitmire had been a secretary for Oakland Township; and along with her husband, she operated a dairy farm for 25 years.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Ernest W. (Betty) Pate of Butler; a son, Charles B. Whitmire Jr. and his wife, Rosemary, of Butler; and a granddaughter, Mrs. Christopher (Jennifer) Tuft of High Point, N.C. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Edith Wilbert of Butler and Mrs. Joseph (Joan) Schrody of North Carolina, and a brother, Robert McDevitt of Butler.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles B. Whitmire, who died Aug. 15, 1973; two brothers, J. Arthur and Roy McDevitt, and a sister, Betty McDevitt.

WHITMIRE — Friends of Margaret Elva Whitmire, who died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2005, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 127 W. Jefferson St. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Springdale Lutheran Church, 1061 Mahood Road, West Sunbury, with lay pastor David Adams officiating. Burial will be at the West Sunbury Union Cemetery.Memorial donations may be made to Concordia Lutheran Ministries, 615 N.
