Lawrence J. Foran

Lawrence J. "Larry" or "Joe" Foran, 70, of Butler died Saturday at his home.

Born July 31, 1936, in Pittsburgh, he was the eldest son of Lawrence Michael and Helen Mary Foran.

In 1954 he graduated from Wilkinsburg High School, and then in 1969 he graduated from Penn Technical Institute with a degree in electronics.

He retired in 2001 after 32 years as a field service engineer and district manager for JEOL USA, Inc. Following retirement, he drove a school bus for the Butler School District.

Throughout his life he enjoyed reading, remodeling, gardening, debating politics or religion, all the children he drove to and from school, and most of all his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Diane Ferguson Foran; a son, Mark A. Foran of Butler; four daughters and their spouses, Theresa and Scott Behrens and Jodi and Fred Reese, all of Butler, Victoria and Russell Maloney of Maryland, and Laura Foran and Hans Juergens of Chicago; 12 grandchildren, Nichole (Jason), Joseph (Erin), Joshua (Heather), Michelle, Thomas (Stacy), Scott, Amy (George), Justin, Megan, Ryan, Kyle and Elle; and four great-grandchildren, Marcus, Kailyn, Chloe` and Madalyn.

Also surviving are two brothers and their spouses, Russell and Sally Foran of Sarver and Keith and Kathy Foran of California, and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gilbert Michael, and a grandson, Thomas John.
