North Country Trail group offers events in September
The Butler Chapter of the North Country Trail Association is offering something for everyone in their list of events for September.
√ A 4.5-mile hike will begin at 10 a.m. Sept. 7, when participants will meet at Holy Sundae parking lot, 439 Washington St., Parker, and shuttle to Eldorado Road. Hikers will trek toward Parker and end the hike with a stop at Bob’s Place for a meal or slice of pie. The hike will include scenic bridges and many elevation changes.
The hike is limited to 25 people, so early registration is recommended. Hikers should dress appropriately and wear sturdy shoes or hiking boots, and bring water, snacks, insect repellent or sunscreen as they see fit.
√ The association meeting will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Butler YMCA, 339 N. Washington St. A continued discussion on goals for the year, upcoming trail maintenance and other subjects will be addressed. All are welcome to attend. Photo ID is required to enter the YMCA.
√ A beekeeping demonstration will be held at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 26 at North Trails Public Library, 1553 West Sunbury Road, West Sunbury. Buzzeleda Honey will give a presentation on beekeeping, hives and honey. Honey will be available for purchase at the event. The event will be held outside, so participants should dress accordingly and bring their own seating.
√ Blaze the Trail Day will be held beginning at noon Sept. 29. Volunteers and anyone interested will meet at different locations on the trail to paint the blue blaze that tells hikers where to go on the trail.
Those planning to help out can meet at the Moraine State Park bicycle rental, 118 N. Shore Drive, Portersville; Seybert’s Garage, 1347 West Sunbury Road, West Sunbury; or the Eldorado trail head, 1244 E. Eldorado Road, Parker.
