Thomas 'T.A.' Beattie

Thomas A. "T.A." Beattie, 84, of Foxburg died at 12:30 a.m. Saturday at the New Life Hospice Center in Amherst, Ohio, after a brief illness.

Born Oct. 11, 1920, in Wheeling, W.Va., he was the son of Thomas C. and Winnifred Fox Beattie.

Mr. Beattie was a 1938 graduate of Peabody High School in Pittsburgh and he graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in mechanical engineering. He retired as a plant operations manager for U.S. Steel Corp. after 35 years.

During World War II, he served with the Navy in the Pacific.

He moved to Foxburg from Portage, Ind., following his retirement in 1980 and was a member of St. Michael Roman Catholic Church in Emlenton. He also was an active member of the Foxburg Country Club.

He enjoyed golf and bridge and was an avid Pirates and Steelers fan

Surviving are two sons, Thomas H. Beattie of Amherst, Ohio, and Ray H. Beattie of Spotslyvania, Va.; and four grandchildren. A brother, Bruce Beattie of St. Louis, Mich.; a sister, Barbara Liberator of Palo Alto, Calif.; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

His wife, Janet Harkless Beattie, whom he married July 2, 1949, at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church in Emlenton, died Aug. 16, 1986. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, a brother and two sisters.

BEATTIE - Friends of Thomas A. "T.A." Beattie, who died Saturday, July 16, 2005, will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. today at HILE FUNERAL HOME 1204 Kerr Ave. at Walnut Street, Emlenton. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church in Emlenton with the Rev. Conrad Kraus officiating. Burial with military honors will be at the Parker Presbyterian Cemetery.A parish prayer service will be held at 5:45 p.m. today at the funeral home.Memorial contributions may be made to New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, 3700 Kolbe Road, Lorain, OH 44053.
