Marie Shumaker Evankovich

Marie Shumaker Evankovich, 85, of Cove Run, Bradys Bend Township, died Thursday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler.

Born Sept. 2, 1930, in Erie, she was the daughter of Paul and Anna (Safin) Sorokes.

On Feb. 3, 1951, Marie married Duane K. Shumaker. He preceded her in death on June 6, 1979. Marie married Michael Evankovich on Oct. 6, 1984. He survives.

In earlier years, Marie owned and operated Shumakers Restaurant and Lounge in Fairview Township.

Marie was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Bradys Bend, where she was a member of the Young at Heart and the Altar Rosary Society. She also sang in the choir.

She enjoyed keeping a home and sewing.

Marie is survived by her husband, Michael Evankovich of Cove Run; two sons, Michael Shumaker and his wife, Diana, of Karns City and Kenneth Shumaker and his wife, Molly, of Haines City, Fla.; and two stepdaughters, Irene Gaiser and her husband, James, of Cove Run and Grace Henry and her husband, Larry, of Butler.

She is also survived by three grandchildren, Amy (John) Fierst, Christopher Shumaker and Clarissa Shumaker; five step-grandchildren, Jennifer Gaiser, Jarrod (Angie) Gaiser, Beth Ann (Joseph) Jackson, Kristen Henry and Christopher Henry; two great-grandchildren, Lilliana and Alaina Fierst; and one stepgreat-grandchild, Harlow Gaiser.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Duane; one daughter, Deborah Ann; seven sisters; and four brothers.

EVANKOVICH — Friends of Marie Evankovich, who died Thursday, April 7, 2016, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Buechele Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 707 Kellys Way, East Brady. A parish prayer service will be at 3 p.m.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at the St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Bradys Bend, with the Rev.
