High school sports roundup: Slippery Rock boys soccer wins low-scoring affair

Wade Freehling’s goal was the difference as Slippery Rock beat Greenville 1-0 in boys soccer action on Wednesday. Max Kovacik helped on the score while Josh Book notched the shutout in goal.

Sisters Brea and Delaney Kelley, a sophomore and freshman at North Catholic, respectively, were both knocked out of the WPIAL Class 2A girls tennis singles tournament Wednesday at Bethel Park High School.

Brea Kelley, the No. 8 seed, defeated Neshannock’s Maddie Arrow 10-6 in the first round before dropping a 10-0 decision to top-seeded Gabriella Dusi of Belle Vernon in the quarterfinals.

Delaney Kelley entered the event as the 11th seed and fell to Oakland Catholic’s Mollie Sclichter 10-1 in the first round.

Girls Golf

Elise Wadas paced Mars with a 38 as the Planets downed Bethel Park, 177-193. Addison Pangonis carded a 45 in the win.

Girls Soccer

Camryn Woods scored a pair and Sam Liput and Isabella Hubbard one each as Freeport beat Knoch 4-0.

Girls Volleyball

Audrey Lehman had 21 kills and nine digs but North Allegheny got past Butler in four sets. The scores of the match were 25-18, 22-25, 25-18 and 25-21.

Cross Country

Griffin Booher finished first in 18 minutes, 58 seconds and Noah Weiland a tick behind him for Karns City, but the Gremlins’ boys fell to Cranberry 25-34. Karns City’s Miley Mooney crossed the finish line in 23:35, good enough for sixth as the Gremlins’ girls also lost to the Berries 15-44.
