Butler County high school football roundup Week 5: Hunter Scherer dominates in Karns City’s win over Punxsutawney

Hunter Scherer rushed for 187 yards and four touchdowns on 19 carries in Karns City’s 35-27 win at Punxsutawney on Friday.

The Gremlins (3-1) trailed 20-14 midway through the third quarter before Scherer and Owen Heginbotham combined to score three straight touchdowns for KC.

Quarterback Cole Johnston added 110 yards on the ground for the Gremlins, who tallied 427 yards rushing as a team.

Saint Marys 60, Moniteau 20 — Brendin Sankey passed for 139 yards and two touchdowns and ran 50 yards for another score, but the Warriors could not keep up with the host Dutchmen.

Blaine Jamison caught a 60-yard scoring pass from Sankey and also intercepted a pass.

Isaiah Thompson also scored on a reception. Sankey rushed for 122 yards.

Sharpsville 35, Slippery Rock 7 — Fred Campagna connected with Cooper Glass in the second half for the Rockets’ lone score.

The touchdown was set up when Cole Schwartz blocked a Blue Devils’ punt.

Slippery Rock (1-4) travels to Harbor Creek on Thursday.

North Catholic 42, McGuffey 0 — The Trojans (3-2, 2-0) won their third straight game and second in Western Hills Conference play.

Port Allegany 57, Union/A-C Valley 20 — This loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Falcon Knights (3-2, 3-2).
