The Republicans are running on two issues this year, inflation and immigration.

Inflation was worldwide problem caused largely by the COVID-19 pandemic. The good news is that under Biden-Harris policies, the inflation rate has come back down under 3% without causing a recession or high unemployment in the U.S. (unlike much of Western Europe). Since the pandemic, wages have grown at a faster rate than inflation, especially among the working class.

On immigration, the Democrats and the Republicans had crafted a bipartisan bill on border security, the toughest in U.S. history. It was set to pass into law easily, until Donald Trump killed the bill. Why? Because he didn’t want to solve the border problem, he wanted to use it as a campaign issue.

In spite of the betrayal, the Biden-Harris administration, in cooperation with Mexico, put in policies to reduce illegal border crossings. In July of this year, the rate fell to its lowest point since before Trump left office.

Meanwhile, what solutions has Donald Trump come up with? His proposal to immediately expel all the migrant workers who grow our food and build our homes, along the proposed 100% tariff on Chinese goods, I feel would cause inflation to skyrocket. His tax breaks for the rich exploded the deficit, if elected he would give us more of the same.

America needs to move forward with serious solutions, not backward with the failed policies of Trump.
