REAL ID deadline pushed back

The Transportation Security Administration is pushing back the REAL ID deadline.

The May 7, 2025, deadline for using a REAL ID for domestic travel and to gain access to certain government facilities has now been pushed to May 5, 2027.

A proposed plan would implement the IDs by May of 2025 but it would not be enforced fully until May of 2027.

As of January 2024, according to the Department of Homeland Security, only 56% of all state issued IDs were REAL IDs.
