Tuesday — Police charged John Lee Shilling, 51, of Butler with making a series of bomb threats directed at local businesses earlier this month.Shilling about 9:50 p.m. Jan. 7 called the Wal-Mart in Butler Commons, according to a police report, and threatened to “blow up the building and kill the manager.”He again called Wal-Mart on Jan 8 and threatened “to blow up every building in Butler,” the report said.That same day, police said, he called the Super 8 motel on Route 8 south and “threatened violence.”Shilling is charged with multiple counts of terroristic threats, threatening to use weapons of mass destruction and harassment.1:38 a.m. Sunday — Sean N. Clemens, 21, of Renfrew was arrested for driving under the influence in the Wal-Mart parking lot in Butler Commons. In addition to DUI, police cited Clemens for not using turn signals, careless driving, failing to keep right, disobeying traffic control device and making an improper left turn.
Dec. 15 — Police suspect a thief Dec. 14 or 15 stole a pair of diamond rings valued at a combined $1,000 and four Xanax pills from a home in the 300 block of Spruce Street.Police said the suspect, who they would not identify, is refusing to cooperate in the investigation.Dec. 13 — A black cell phone was found near South Broad and Blair streets. The owner can claim the phone by calling police at 724-458-7925.
2:09 a.m. Friday — Stephen E. Ball, 38, of Slippery Rock was hurt when the car he was driving crashed into a ditch at Harmony and Prairie roads in Mercer Township. Ball, who was not wearing a seat belt, was taken to Grove City Medical Center with minor injuries. Police said he was cited for driving too fast for conditions.12:32 a.m. Friday — Carrie Ann Lawther, 33, of Harmony was arrested after allegedly assaulting 24-year-old Marc Himmelwright during a domestic dispute at the couple's Crest Drive home in Lancaster Township.Police said Himmelwright suffered minor facial injuries.Lawther was arraigned on charges of simple assault and harassment, and placed in the Butler County Prison on $1,000 bail.
