Harmony man charged with fleeing from police on stolen motorcycle

A Harmony man was charged Monday with fleeing from police on a stolen motorcycle last week.

Patrick R. Majetich, 27, was charged with felonies receiving stolen property and fleeing from police, as well as 21 summary violations, and placed in Butler County Prison in lieu of $5,000 bail following the Wednesday, Sept. 18, incident that began on Route 8 in Center Township.

According to a state police affidavit, a trooper was driving north on Route 8 about a mile north of South Benbrook Road and saw a southbound motorcycle that appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed. The trooper began to follow it.

The bike traveled through a red light at Route 8 and South Benbrook Road, traveled off the road to pass a group of motorcycles and turned right onto South Benbrook Road, according to the affidavit.

The trooper activated his emergency lights and siren and tried to pull over the motorcycle, but it accelerated and reached speeds over 70 mph in a 45 mph zone, crossed the center line several times and passed multiple oncoming vehicles in a careless manner, according to the affidavit.

The bike turned onto Greenwood Drive, failed to stop at a stop sign, turned onto Route 422 and continued at an extremely dangerous speed when the trooper ended the pursuit due to the danger it posed to other drivers, according to the affidavit.

Using the license plate number from the motorcycle, the trooper identified Majetich as a suspect and met him at his home on Friday, when he admitted to operating the bike. The plate was registered to a different motorcycle and the motorcycle Majetich was driving had been reported stolen, according to the affidavit.
