BUFFALO TWP — Amos Glenn could’ve flexed.
If he wanted, the Freeport junior tailback could’ve even counted on his fingers the six — count ‘em, six — rushing touchdowns he’d scored Friday night.
He didn’t.
“I just look at it as like I’m a silent killer, you know?” Glenn said after an outstanding performance in the Yellowjackets’ 48-20 home win over Valley. “I just get the job done, handle business and I just go over to my team and give them high-fives. No need to celebrate.”
Having punched the football in with 1 minute, 42 seconds to go in the third quarter of the Allegheny 7 Conference tilt — among the best single-game rushing performances in Freeport (4-2, 2-1) history, multiple people around the team believe — Glenn modestly offered teammates handshakes on the way to the sideline. When he and quarterback Drew Ross arrived at the boundary together, it was the latter that frenzied those waiting.

Before the frame was through, Sean Selinger’s 73-yard interception return for a touchdown provided the ‘Jackets’ final points in the victory. Without hesitation, Glenn ran from the sideline, appearing to be headed to congratulate the senior linebacker in the end zone.
Glenn remembered he’d be flagged for doing so and instead ran the length of his team’s sideline excitedly jumping up and down.
“That’s my guy,” Glenn said of Selinger. “We talk before the games. We get each other hyped. I just love seeing my teammates eating. ... That’s why I ran on the field. I was hyped to see him score.”
All told, Glenn’s impressive effort read 255 rushing yards on 25 carries. He’d already led all Butler County rushers in ground yardage entering the contest.
“I just give all glory to God, man,” said Glenn, who missed last season with a knee injury. “I couldn’t do it without Him. It’s been a long road. I want to give all my credit to my linemen. Without my receivers blocking, too, I couldn’t do what I did tonight.”
“It shows how if we work as all 11 at once, anything can happen,” Freeport coach John Gaillot said. “Mickey ran very well. ... All 11 deserve credit (for) that.”
It almost never happened. He dislocated his shoulder on the first carry of the game but returned shortly after a trainer popped it back into socket.
“I talked to my father,” Glenn said. “He just told me I’ve got to suck it up, play harder. So I just moved it around, stretched it out (and) did some push-ups. I went back in. I had to run harder.”
The Vikings (0-6, 0-2) staked themselves to a 7-0 lead on the game’s second play from scrimmage when Mason Simmons hit Payton Eason on a quick slant that went for a 62-yard score.
But Danny King’s interception on Valley’s next possession set Glenn up to even the count from 12 yards out two plays later. King also assisted on Glenn’s second score — that one from 2 yards away — with an 18-yard reception that put the ball at the visitors’ 2-yard line right before.
Glenn punctuated a ground-exclusive, 12-play, 82-yard march by barreling 3 yards in with 1:10 left in the first half. He coughed the ball up to the Vikings on the opening kickoff of the second half — perhaps his only mistake of the night — and wasted no time in making up for it. He brought his next carry 89 yards around the right edge to make it 27-7.

Valley replied by going three-and-out, then Ross’s passes to Selinger and King allowed for Glenn to soon polish off that series with a 9-yard surge. The Vikings lost a fumble on the first play of their next possession, then Glenn found the end zone for a final time nearly three minutes later.
Valley’s Nicolas Heakins returned the kick following Selinger’s pick-six all the way back. Heakins also ran for an 18-yard touchdown after the ‘Jackets’ younger players were thrust into action.
