High school sports roundup: North Catholic girls cross country defends Youthtowne Clash crown
North Catholic’s girls cross country team defended its title on Saturday at the Youthtowne Clash in Clinton, Pa. The event’s field included a number of Class 3A programs, including Seneca Valley, North Hills, and Baldwin.
The Trojanettes posted a score of 48 behind Madeline Meeuf’s second-place finish of 18 minutes, 43 seconds. It was Meeuf’s personal best in a 5K event and the second-fastest time in school history in that category.
Caroline Sell finished 10th (19:36), Tessa Driehorst 11th (19:47), Anna Morris 12th (19:54) and Maggie Killian 13th (19:58). Each were also personal bests.
– North Catholic’s boys placed seventh — and second among Class 2A casts — as Tyler Carroll finished fourth with a personal best time of 16:11.
Cecelia Wolford, Lucia Leyland, Kara Lubinsky and Ava Soley scored for Butler’s girls soccer team as it beat Kiski Area 4-0 on Saturday.
Thomas Sheptak starred for Butler, notching two goals and adding an assist, as the Golden Tornado beat Kiski Area 4-1 on Saturday.
Everett Reges and Noah Simmons also found the back of the net in the win.
Freeport 2, Greensburg Central Catholic 0 — Angelo Porco scored a pair and Judah Thompson had an eight-save shutout on Saturday for the Yellowjackets.
