Update: Firefighter struck after 2-vehicle crash in Portersville
A firefighter responding to a two-vehicle crash was struck by a vehicle on Perry Highway in Portersville on Monday, Sept. 30, police said.
Emergency crews, including the Portersville/Muddy Creek Township Volunteer Fire Department, already were on scene on Perry Highway to respond to the crash involving two vehicles, one of which was a pickup truck from a Portersville concrete business.
According to Tim Saunders, chief of the Portersville/Muddy Creek Township Volunteer Fire Department, the struck firefighter was from the Prospect/Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Department. He was transported to a local hospital for evaluation, and was sent home later on Monday.
The crash occurred across the street from the Portersville post office. According to dispatch reports, the crash was reported shortly after 2 p.m.
The person who was struck initially was reported to be a pedestrian.
“There was a two-vehicle crash at that location, and a pedestrian was struck after the initial crash,” said Bertha Cazy of the Pennsylvania State Police.
“The firefighter was on the call in Portersville, and was struck by a motorist turning north from West Portersville Road,” said Saunders.
Cazy added that further details would come from state police later on Monday.
This is a developing story.
