Donna J. Smith

Donna J. Smith, 95, of Butler passed away Thursday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice after a short illness.

She was born Nov. 1, 1920, in Allegheny County to the late Adam C. Schafer and Sarah Elizabeth Schafer. She was the youngest of 14 children.

Donna was a very talented artist and seamstress. She attended Pittsburgh Beauty Academy and had been a self-employed hairdresser. She belonged to the DAR and the DAC and volunteered at Butler Memorial Hospital. Donna was a longtime member of the North Main Street Church of God.

Donna is survived by one son, Frederick E. Smith of Butler; one daughter, Dawn E. Ecklund and her husband, Robert, of Butler; five grandchildren, Eric E. Ecklund and his wife, Charlotte, of Johnstown, Erin E. Ecklund of Butler, Drew A. Ecklund and his wife, Leisa, of Greensburg, Jacob T. Smith and his wife, Alicia, of Pittsburgh and Adam Orlowski of Butler; and five great-grandchildren, Lauren E. Ecklund, Anna Kate Ecklund, Chloe M. Ecklund, Cecilia M. Ecklund and Mason T. Smith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Fred E. Smith, who she married on Aug. 26, 1938, and who passed away in 1990; one daughter, Cynthia J. Orlowski; one infant daughter; and 13 brothers and sisters.

SMITH — Friends of Donna J. Smith, who died Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016, will be received Monday, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler. Funeral services will be held immediately following at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Matt Reitz of North Main Street Church of God officiating.Private burial will take place in the North Side Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Butler Public Library, 218 N.
