Seneca Valley’s Brody Pirt finished one stroke shy of qualifying for the PIAA Class 3A Boys Golf Individual Championship.

Pirt was the top Butler County finisher in the WPIAL Class 3A Boys Golf Individual Championship, shooting 16-over during the two-round meet. He carded an 8-over Tuesday at Oakmont Country Club.

His scored placed him tied for 20th overall; the top 16 golfers qualified for the state championship.

Mars’ Lukas Singh finished 17-over (t-23rd), the next best local finisher.

Seneca Valley sent a program record four golfers to the WPIAL championship. The other three and their finishes were: Anthony Cardosi (18-over, t-25), Marcos Lopez (22-over, t-34) and Tyler Garvin (23-over, t-37).

Butler’s Levi McClellan shot a 19-over, tied for 28th, and Mars’ Will Campbell shot 18-over, tied for 25th.

Colton Lusk (Peters Twp.) won the title with a 2-under over 36 holes. He shot 4-under Tuesday.

Boys soccer

Mason Sherwin scored a pair of goals to lead Karns City to a 6-0 win over Punxsutawney on Tuesday evening.

Carter Ritzert had a goal and two assists in the win, and Colton Christie and Davin Henry had a goal and assist each. Levi Anderson scored the remaining goal.

Brock Dittman and Josh Peters had five and three saves, respectively, in the shutout.

Girls soccer

Hanna Dailey had three goals and an assist to lead Karns City to an 11-1 win over visiting Punxsutawney.

Phoebe Brandon chipped in two goals and two assists, and Carleigh Lucas added a pair of goals. Katelyn VanDyke and Sophia Bonetto each had a goal and assist in the victory.

Freeport’s Michael Braun broke his own course record in 16 minutes, 22 seconds in a tri-meet with Knoch and Avonworth.

The Yellowjackets boys cruised to wins against both teams, beating Avonworth 16-46 and the Knights 20-38. Knoch beat Avonworth 21-34. On the girls side, Freeport beat Knoch 15-50 lost to Avonworth 23-34, while Avonworth beat Knoch 15-50.

Freeport’s David Kristine followed Braun in second in 18:01, and Knoch’s Grady Robb finished third in 18:07.

The Knights’ Natalie Zolinas won the girls race in 21:36, with the ‘Jackets’ Grace Kristine finishing third in 22:52.

North Allegheny at Butler — The Golden Tornado split a pivotal tri-meet against North Allegheny and Shaler.

Led by a third-place time of 17:43 by Brendan Eicher, with Ethan Thomas four seconds behind, the boys (4-2, 4-2 section) lost to undefeated North Allegheny 23-34 but but Shaler 15-50. The Tigers’ Andrew Peigh crossed the finish line first in 17:12.

The Butler girls’ Zari Golojuh finished fourth in 21:32, with Makayla McLister fifth in 21:49, as the Tornado (5-2, 5-2 section) fell to undefeated NA 19-41 and beat Shaler 15-50. The Tigers’ Elizabeth Pizon won the race in 21:04.

Slippery Rock at Sharpsville — The Rockets swept Sharpsville 15-50 (girls) and 27-30 (boys). Kasey Yeager led the girls race with a time of 22:02, followed five seconds later by teammate Leah Perez to improve the Rockets to 4-1. Hunter Doerflinger crossed the finish line first in 19:00 for the SRHS boys (3-2).

North Catholic at Shady Side Academy quad meet — The Trojans girls beat Burrel 20-43 to clinch an undefeated WPIAL section championship. The boys also beat Burrell 18-45 and finished the regular season 6-3 in section competition.

Girls volleyball

Andrey Lehman had 11 kills, seven digs and four aces in an all-around effort to lead Butler to a 3-0 sweep over Norwin.

Raina Lewandowski had 10 kills and Brynn Cornibe eight as the Tornado won by set scores of 25-15, 25-13, 25-19.

Clarion-Limestone 3, A-C Valley 0 — Maddy Dehart had five kills, three blocks and three digs in ACV’s loss. Set scores were 25-10, 25-9, 25-13.

Nichole Wingard had five assists and four digs.

Slippery Rock 3, Franklin 2 — Adison Novad and Marissa Metzka combined for 30 kills, 16 and 14, respectively, in the Rockets’ comeback victory. Set scores were 22-25, 21-25, 25-19, 25-13, 15-8.

CJ Sabo had 10 kills and five blocks for Slippery Rock. Lexi Plesakov had 13 digs, and Zoey Pokrantz dished out 16 assists and Lexi Caldwell 15.

Keystone 3, Moniteau 1 — Bella Hernandez had five kills in the Warriors’ loss by set scores of 25-12, 25-16, 23-25, 25-19.

Sayge Brunst and Natalee Klixbull each had three kills, while Brunst added an ace.

Seneca Valley 3, Canon-McMillan 0 — The Raiders improved to 7-5 after the non-section match.
