Assassination task force asking for more bureau documents

The Task Force on the Attempted Assassination of Donald J. Trump on Thursday, Oct. 3, requested documents and interviews from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives regarding assassination attempts on Trump.

One of the items requested by the task force involves the bureau’s discovery and investigation of the improvised explosive device at the July 13 shooter’s home; and the efforts to locate and investigate his vehicle.

A news release from the task force, headed by U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly, R-16th, said the bureau provided “critical incident” response functions on July 13 at both the Butler County rally site, and the home of the shooter. The task force will continue to examine the bureau’s response to the second assassination attempt, which took place Sept. 15.

The request asks for copies of documents sent to the FBI and state police, including investigative reports, all communications, including emails, text messages and phone logs related to the July 13 and Sept. 15 events.

The task force has requested that documents be provided no later than Oct. 17.
