Butler man charged with multiple counts of receiving stolen property
A county man faces multiple charges of receiving stolen property charges after state police said they tracked a cellphone that was reported stolen to his Oakland Township home and found identification cards belonging to other people as well as credit cards and debit cards bearing other people’s names.
Brandon A. Williams, 29, was charged Thursday, Oct. 3 with 16 counts of receiving stolen property, two counts of evading arrest on foot, possession of drug paraphernalia and disorderly conduct. He was placed in the county prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.
An East Butler man reported to police that his cellphone was stolen from his vehicle while it was parked at his home on Oct. 2, and he used the phone’s GPS to find out the phone’ last known location, which was Williams’ home, according to an affidavit.
Williams wasn’t home when police arrived, but a relative removed cards from a pair of jeans that Williams might have worn. The cards included three state identification cards belonging to other people and a health benefits card and three debit cards bearing other people’s names, two other debit cards, two credit cards, two gift cards and another identification card, according to the affidavit.
The trooper then said he noticed a cellphone that matched the description of the phone that was reported stolen, according to the affidavit.
After obtaining a search warrant, police found a rolled up dollar bill that was suspected to have been used for ingesting illegal drugs, according to the complaint.
Police said they located Williams twice on Oct. 2, but he fled both times, according to the affidavit. He was arrested the next day.
