James ‘Jim’ Kanell

James “Jim” David Kanell, 89, of Sewickley, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2024, while under the care of Heritage Valley Sewickley.

Born on Oct. 1, 1935, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Walter and Roberta (Moeller) Kanell.

Jim was a proud member of St. Peter’s Reformed Church, and previously attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Sewickley, for many years. He was also a long-standing member of the Doric Lodge 630, Sewickley. He was fond of the outdoors, as he enjoyed hunting, fishing, his rustic cabin in Cherry Springs, Pa., and visiting national parks with his wife. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for making others smile with his sense of humor.

Jim leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Debbie Kanell, they spent the best 11 years of their lives together; his children, Jennifer Lynn, Michael David (Jeani) and James Peter (Yasemin); his brother, Walter (Bonnie); his sisters, Mary (Andrew) Kovacic and Roberta Kanell; and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his stepson, Brian Sullivan; and his sister, Janet Walker.

KANELL — Friends and family of James “Jim” David Kanell, who died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2024, will be received from noon until the service at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Peter’s Reformed Church, 320 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople, PA 16063, with Pastor David Bordy officiating. A luncheon will be held at the church following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s honor to St. Peter’s Reformed Church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, Zelienople.
