James Pitcairn Lindsay Sr., 72, of South Buffalo Township, passed into the spiritual world on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Born March 13, 1952, in Harrison Township, Jim was the son of Betty Jane (Gahagen) and Alexander Heilman Lindsay Sr.

Jim attended Freeport schools, was a 1970 graduate of The Phelps School in Malvern, Pa., and graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics as an aviation maintenance technician. He worked for Eastern Airlines in Florida and for Graham Aviation in Butler. For 29 years, Jim was a field mechanic for Air Products in Creighton. When his family opened Birdsfoot Golf Club in 2002, Jim became special project manager.

Jim was a Swedenborgian and a member of The Sower’s Chapel in Sarver. He was a member and past Master, for three terms, of Armstrong Lodge No. 239 F&AM, a member and past Master for Pollock Lodge No. 502 F&AM, and member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite and the Pittsburgh Syria Shriners.

Jim was the most recent president of the Rockledge Garden Club, which was founded by his grandmother in 1929. Jim also was the most recent president of the Alle-Kiski MS Support Group. In addition, he was a family support group facilitator for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Mary E. (Byers) Lindsay; four children and their spouses, Sally (Tom) Parenti, James P. (Joy) Lindsay Jr., Michelle (Jonathan) Hardt and Scott Lindsay; and six grandchildren, Aleena and Nicholas Parenti, Kaitlyn and Noah Lindsay, and Alexis and Lillian Hardt. Jim is survived also by eight siblings, Carol A. (William) Kronen, Alexander H. (Trish) Lindsay Jr., John S. (Carol Ann) Lindsay, Charles G. Lindsay, Laurie A. Lindsay, Andrew S. (Lisa) Lindsay, Thomas R. “Jarve” (Beth) Lindsay and Dr. J. Daniel Heilman; his sister-in-law, Kathy (Richard) Starr; and many nieces and nephews. His Boston terrier, “Buzzy,” was a loyal and energetic companion.

LINDSAY — Family and friends of James Pitcairn Lindsay Sr., who died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2024, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 4, and 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at REDMOND FUNERAL HOME, 524 High St., Freeport.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, at The Sower’s Chapel, 100 Iron Bridge Road, Sarver, with the Rev. Michael Gladish officiating.
