David McCall

McCall

David L. McCall, 94, formerly of Slippery Rock, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2024, at St. John Lutheran Care Center in Mars.

He was born Dec. 2, 1929, in Penn Hills, Pa., to the late John B. and Esther R. (Fennell) McCall.

David was a graduate of Penn High School and a Korean War combat veteran, U.S. Army corporal and radio operator. Dave spent his working career as superintendent of Mount Hope Cemetery, Penn Hills, and Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Lebanon, Pa. He was a past president of the Cemetery Association of Pennsylvania.

Dave was a loving and kind man with a dry sense of humor, who was happiest spending time with family and friends. No matter where he went, he never left a stranger. He loved bluegrass music and had a passion for motorcycling. In his younger years, he raced in many jack pines motorcycle races and rode his favorite Triumph and Honda motorcycles well into his 80s.

Our family has many fond memories of canoe and camping trips, Sunday drives (never come home the same way you came) and family get-togethers. He loved the outdoors and spent many hours on his yard and trees. Dave was also a fine carpenter, building beautiful pieces for family and friends.

David is survived by his daughter, Kathryn A. Weir (Mark) of Rochester, Pa.; and his grandchildren, Laura L. Kalaras (Michael) of Secane, Pa., and Thomas M. Weir (Kristin Yahner) Pittsburgh. He is also survived by his great-granddaughters, Mila K. Kalaras and Stella C. Kalaras, as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Dolores E. (Schwartz) McCall; his beloved son, Robert L. McCall; brother, John A. McCall; and sister, Edith E. Young.

Special thanks to the kind and caring staff of St. John Lutheran Care Center in Mars.
