Mars high schoolers recognized by Daughters of the American Revolution
Seven Mars Area High School students were recognized by the Kushkushkee Trail Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
For excellence in American History, chosen by their social studies teachers, the following students were awarded certificates: Alexis Abbey, Amanda Morrison, Brett Kelly, Sophia Gourash, Grace Nam, Vivian Black and Alexandria James. Criteria for selection was for students exhibiting high academic achievement, leadership skills, volunteers in service to the school/community and active participation in class and school activities/teams/clubs/student government.
Social studies teacher Corey Goeggelman was nominated by his administration and recognized with a certificate for Outstanding Teaching of American History. A $50 check was made out to Mars Area High School library in his honor.
The Daughters of the American Revolution is an apolitical service organization dedicated to historic preservation, education and service to the military, whose members can trace their ancestry to those who participated in the Revolutionary War.
