Drug charges filed against Allegheny County man

An Avalon man is facing felony and misdemeanor drug charges filed by Butler city police in connection with a May 15 traffic stop.

Four felony counts of possession with intent to deliver and a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia were filed last week against Martin Correll, 36, of Avalon, Allegheny County.

Officers pulled over a car in which Correll was a passenger for blocking traffic at the intersection of West Cunningham and Jackson streets. Police said the car had been seen recently at suspected drug houses in the city and surrounding area.

After the driver denied an officer’s request to search the car, police told him that another officer and drug detecting K-9 were going to be called. If the dog detected the presence of drugs, the car would be towed and officers would apply for a search warrant to search it, according to an affidavit.

An officer with a K-9 arrived, the dog provided a positive alert on the passenger side of car, and the car was towed to the city’s Bureau of Fire, where it was held while officers obtained a search warrant, according to the affidavit.

Most of the drugs were found in a backpack that belonged to Correll. In a bag found inside the backpack, police found multiple knotted baggies of suspected drugs, 370 full stamp bags labeled “Moncler,” 38 suspected oxycodone pills, a digital scale and two cellphones, according to the affidavit.

A cigarette pack found in the center console contained 11.05 grams of a fine crystalline substance, suspected to be crystal methamphetamine, and two burned crack pipes, according to the affidavit.

Laboratory results of the substances found in the backpack found 40.01 grams of methamphetamine, 46.19 grams of cocaine, 4.34 grams of fentanyl and 4.04 grams of fentanyl in the form of counterfeit oxycodone pills, according to the affidavit.

Also found in the car were 10.05 grams of methamphetamine and stamp bags labeled “Time Out” containing 0.30 grams of a powder.

The powder in one of the bags contained fentanyl, methamphetamine and xylazine, according to the affidavit.

Charges have not been filed against the driver.
