House under construction catches fire in Cranberry Township
CRANBERRY TWP — The construction on one of the new houses on Sequoia Lane hit a setback Friday morning, Oct. 18, when a fire broke out in the kitchen, damaging the first floor of the building.
The report of a fire at 154 Sequoia Lane, located in the Laurel Pointe neighborhood, came in around 6:50 a.m. Friday. Firefighters found a fire at the back of the house, indicating that it potentially started in the kitchen.
“It may have been burning already; no one was in the house yet,” said Amy Behun, a lieutenant with Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company. “The first team made entry in back, and more than one room was smoking.”
Behun said the fire in the house was mainly contained to the first floor, but it damaged the flooring making it potentially dangerous to get through. Despite this danger, firefighters contained the fire within 30 minutes, and no one was injured, according to Behun.
Cranberry Township police and EMS also responded to the scene, along with Adams Area Fire District, Harmony Fire District, Wexford Volunteer Fire Company and Marshall Township Volunteer Fire Department.
Crews cleared the scene at around 8:50 a.m.
Many of the houses in the neighborhood, situated off Franklin Road in southern Cranberry Township, are under construction. The house at 154 Sequoia Lane had been erected, but still a shell of a house as of Friday morning.
