Saxonburg man charged with threatening Summit Township resident

A Saxonburg man has been charged with terroristic threats and other charges for allegedly threatening a Summit Township resident in text messages sent to a third party on Friday, Oct. 18.

State police filed misdemeanor charges of terroristic threats, simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct against Justin M. Castilyn, 45.

Castilyn told the Butler Eagle on Friday afternoon that he had just found out about the warrant and planned to turn himself in, but he said he didn’t know why the charges were filed.

“I have no idea what it’s about. I have no clue,” Castilyn said.

Police responded to a home on Freeport Road and the resident reported he had been warned by a third party about threats made against him, according to an affidavit.

The third party sent screen shots of the messages she said she received from Castilyn to police, which said, “I’ll catch this (expletive) and when I do I’ll put a round in his head,” according to the affidavit.

Tiffany Barton, of Butler, said she called police and warned the Summit Township man.

She said Castilyn considers her a close friend even though they only met once at a car show in Butler.

Barton said Castilyn sent her a text message at 1 a.m. saying a man was ruining his life, and he would shoot him in the head if he comes outside.

She said she saw numerous police officers respond to the home of the man who was allegedly threatened. She said she doesn’t know the Summit Township resident, but found his Facebook page and sent him a message warning him about the threat.
