College sports roundup: BC3 volleyball still perfect; Butler grads take home conference honors
Butler County Community College women’s volleyball swept Thiel College’s JV team Monday 3-0 by set scores of 25-7, 25-11, 25-15.
Dakota Weldon led the attack for the Pioneers (21-0) with eight kills. Anora Robare had 17 assists, Josie Russo five blocks and Adriona Arnold five aces.
BC3 will host the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 20 match, which is also the Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference Championship, at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Butler grad Ava Plunkard was named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week. The Chatham sophomore setter had 86 assists, 33 digs and four blocks in two Chatham wins last week over Washington & Jefferson and Waynesburg.
Butler grad David Bocci was named the PSAC Men’s Swimming Athlete of the Week on Oct. 15. Bocci led Clarion to relay wins in the 200 medley relay at the PSAC Sprint Frenzy and the 400 medley relay at the PSAC Fall Invitational. He also won the 50 freestyle at the Sprint Frenzy in 23.03 seconds, then won the 200 individual medley in 1:56.80 at the Fall Invitational.
