High school sports roundup: North Catholic girls tennis continues in PIAA playoffs

In its first trip to the PIAA girls tennis tournament, North Catholic advanced to the quarterfinals on Tuesday by downing Bedford 4-1 at Bethel Park High School.

Delaney Kelly had a 6-1, 6-0 No. 2 singles win, which coach Eric Solverson said was her best performance of the year. Freshman Evelyn Marche won No. 3 singles by the same scores.

The duos of Katie Hardy and Jessica Sinclair and Macaria Stall and Ava Conley both had doubles victories.

The Trojanettes will face off against Lancaster Country Day on Friday morning in Hershey.

Golf

In the PIAA Class 2A boys individual championship at Penn State University’s Blue Course, A-C Valley sophomore Joe Rapp finished the two-day event with a 162 (83-79), tying him for 50th place out of 72 golfers.

North Catholic’s Ben Kandravy shot a 168 (83-85) and tied for 59th place.

Wyoming Seminary’s Nick Werner carded a 138 to win the state championship.

In Class 2A girls play, Karns City senior Chloe Fritch shot a 156 (79-77) to tie for 9th place out of 38 golfers.

North Catholic’s Riley Kontul had a 173 (88-85) and placed 23rd.

Madison Koshko of St. Joseph's Catholic Academy came in with a 140 (73-67) to win the state title.

Girls Volleyball

No. 6 Port Allegany downed No. 11 A-C Valley in four sets on Tuesday night, the scores being 25-12, 25-19, 20-25 and 25-7. Ava Snyder had six kills and seven digs for the Falcons, while Maddy Dehart had seven kills, nine blocks and five digs.

Boys Soccer

The No. 5 Slippery Rock boys soccer team finished its season with a 12-7 record after falling to No.4 Harbor Creek 6-0 in a District 10 Class 2A quarterfinal playoff tilt at Franklin High School.
