Painter

Thomas Edward Painter, 88, of Slippery Rock, passed away at home on Monday, Oct. 21, 2024.

Born Dec. 31, 1935, Tom was the son of Walter and Elmo Louise Hawk Painter.

Tom graduated from Butler High School. He worked at the Craigsville pipe plant, the ice plant and spent 30 years at Armco before retiring.

On June 5, 1954, Tom married Victoria Eyth, with whom he celebrated 70 years of marriage.

Tom loved spending time with his family, whether it was playing cards, games, square dancing or just sitting on the swings talking of old times. He enjoyed watching Pittsburgh Pirates baseball and Steelers football, which over the years became the family time together. He had a love for horses and loved watching the grandchildren show. He had a special soft spot for a palomino colt, Cornbreads Legacy. He was an avid deer hunter with trips to Wyoming and Montana. He also went on a wild boar hunt in Texas with his grandchildren, son-in-law and friends.

Tom enjoyed celebrating his 70th wedding anniversary with his lovely wife, Vicky, joined by family and friends on this special milestone occasion. Tom had belonged to St. Wendelin Catholic Church and was an active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Forestville, where he participated on the parish council and Men’s Club. He also served as an usher.

Tom is survived by his wife, Victoria Painter of Slippery Rock; two children, Diane (Earl) Lumley of Petrolia and Karen (James) Dillaman of Slippery Rock; and three grandchildren, Amanda (Curtis) Reynolds, Joshua (Jennifer) Dillaman and Jesse James Dillaman, all of Slippery Rock.
