A Mars Area High School student died this week, and the school district is extending support to students emotionally affected by the death.

Alex Kinch was a junior at Mars Area High School. He was also a junior member of the Adams Area Fire District, and the son of one of its members, Chad Kinch, according to a Facebook post by the organization.

“Our deepest sympathies are extended to his parents, Chad and Aimee, his extended family, and many friends,” Adams Area Fire District said in a Facebook post.

Mars Area School District released a statement Tuesday, Oct. 22, recognizing Alex’s death, and offering help to students and their families in processing their grief.

“A young person's death is always tragic and a sudden loss like this can have a profound effect on students,” the district statement reads. “It is important that we recognize this loss and offer help.”

The district asks that families talk with their child or children to help them process their emotions, including their behavior, actions and reactions.

People experiencing difficulty with the death can contact the Center for Community Resources at 1-800-292-3866 24/7, or at www.ccrinfo.org.

Families seeking additional resources can reach out to the Caring Place at www.highmarkcaringplace.com/cp2/contact.shtml.
