High school sports roundup: North Catholic boys golfers place 5th at states; Mars ekes out playoff win on pitch

By finishing with a team score of 316, the North Catholicboys golf team tied West Shamokin for fifth at the PIAA team championships at the Penn State Blue Course on Wednesday.

Chris Faber finished one over par with a team-best 73 — fourth of any golfer at the event — Eric Proie a 76, Luke Lamb 83, Ben Kandravy 84 and Dylan Murray 86.

Scranton Prep won the crown with a team score of 296.

Boys Soccer

Mars got past Chartiers Valley 1-0 in a WPIAL Class 3A quarterfinal playoff game. Logan Coone scored the difference-maker for the Planets.

Girls Soccer

Slippery Rock’s campaign came to a halt with a 6-0 loss against General McLane in a District 10 Class 2A quarterfinal on Wednesday night. The contest was held at Meadville High School.

Girls Volleyball

Despite Adi Novad’s 12 kills an 10 digs and CJ Sabo’s five blocks, Harbor Creek defeated Slippery Rock 3-1 in a District 10 Class 3A quarterfinal at Meadville High School.

The Huskies won by scores of 23-25, 25-18, 25-18 and 25-23.
