Richard 'Dick' Jackson Cordts

Richard “Dick” Jackson Cordts, 75, of Butler and Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away at 6:10 a.m. Sunday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler.

He was born July 19, 1935, in Boston, Mass., the son of the late Robert O. Cordts and the late Nance (Jackson) Cordts.

Dick was a member of the Board of American Cancer Society of Port Charlotte, Fla., where he received the Hope Award. He also was a member of the Punta Gorda Elks Lodge and a former member of the Waters Edge RV Resort in Punta Gorda, where he spent the winter months.

He enjoyed playing poker, cribbage and euchre and going to jazz festivals. He worked tirelessly to raise funds for ROCK Camp, Reaching Out to Cancer Kids.

Dick was a graduate of Beloit (Wisconsin) High School.

He had worked as an auto mechanic and for 25 years was a driver for Mayflower. He also did office work for Billy Errera Towing and Repair for five years.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy A. (Campbell) Cordts of Butler; four stepchildren, David C. Harkins of Butler, Sharon E. (Ken) McNaughton of Butler, Timothy W. (Daneen) Harkins of Cape Coral, Fla., and Jeffrey L. (Karen) Harkins of Arkansas; three step-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandchild.
