Mildred Ice

Mildred “Mid” Lenore (Thorpe) Ice, 87, of Sewickley died suddenly Wednesday from a stroke.

Born Oct. 31, 1927, in Centerburg, Ohio, she was the second of four children of the late Charles and Nellie Thorpe.

She graduated from Centerburg High School in 1945 and received a B.S. in education from Otterbein College in 1949.

She taught high school home economics in Deshler, Ohio, for two years. She then joined the Ohio Power Co., educating consumers in new kitchen appliances in-person and on television.

Lawrence Everett Ice Jr. and Mid married May 24, 1953. Larry, the love of her life, was a chemical engineer and executive with the Diamond Shamrock Corp. After Larry’s death in 1988, Mid moved from Grand Junction, Colo., to Sewickley in 1990.

Truly thriving until her last breath, she was an active servant in the community and local church. She was involved in many ministries and organizations including the Greater-Pittsburgh Literacy Program, art classes, P.E.O., Sewickley Singers, Apples of Gold, People Helpers, the library and the Christy House.

Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. She is survived by her brother, Jim; children, Bart (Debbie), Jana (Wendell) Pinkerton, Amy (Grant) Henley and David; eight grandchildren, Thomas, Jimmy, Leslie (Garin), Amanda (JD), Rachel, Josh, Daniel and Joel; and one great-grandchild, Kain.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; brother, Robert; sister, Marian; and granddaughters, Elisa and Alora.

ICE — After tissue donation and cremation for Mildred “Mid” Lenore (Thorpe) Ice, who died Wednesday, May 13, 2015, Mid will be buried beside Larry in Grand Junction, Colo.A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Stephen's Anglican Church in Sewickley.Donations can be made to the St. Stephen's church ministries, specifically People Helpers, the library and the Christy House.Arrangements are by McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, 238 Crowe Ave. Mars.Condolences are available at www.mcdonald-aeberli.com.
