Man charged for drawing a gun during confrontation

A Butler man has been charged by police for allegedly drawing a gun during a confrontation in the parking lot of a Zelienople restaurant.

Zelienople police charged Nicholas A. Edwards, 30, with misdemeanor counts of recklessly endangering another person, terroristic threats and disorderly conduct and summary criminal mischief following the Sept. 27 incident.

A restaurant delivery driver told police he pulled out from a gas station on Main Street and made a quick turn into the restaurant lot when a sport utility vehicle pulled up and the driver began beeping his horn and yelling, according to an affidavit.

The delivery driver exchanged words with the other driver, who then pulled into the lot. The delivery driver told police he drove toward the sport utility vehicle, got out of his vehicle, and the sport utility vehicle driver got out of his car and pointed a gun at him, according to the affidavit.

The men eventually left with no shots being fired, according to the affidavit.

A restaurant employee approached the two men during the confrontation and told police he saw the man holding a gun, according to the affidavit.

Police talked to Edwards on Oct. 17. He said the delivery driver pulled out on to Main Street and immediately stopped to pull into the restaurant without using a turn signal. Edwards said he then pulled into the lot to “see what’s up” when another man ran toward his vehicle. He said he didn’t want to fight with two men so he reached into his vehicle and grabbed his gun, but didn’t point it at either man or make a threat, police said. He told police the gun was registered and he has a carry permit.
