Convict arrested on parole violation
PITTSBURGH — Authorities say a man convicted of sending a mail bomb that exploded at a post office three decades ago has been arrested on a parole violation.
Allegheny County and federal authorities said 60-year-old Randall McFadden walked away from a halfway house after completing a 30-year sentence in the 1985 blast at the Warrendale bulk postal center.
Officials said McFadden had tried to mail a pipe bomb to a woman in New York but it went off in the postal facility, causing damage but no injuries.
Authorities said they found McFadden on Saturday at a hospital where he was taken after a hunter found him in the woods.
