Butler County high school football roundup Week 10: Eric Kasperowicz scores 3 TDs in Mars win; North Catholic helps playoff case
Mars senior Eric Kasperowicz punched the ball in three times on Friday night — from 5, 35 and 27 yards — as the Planets powered to a 42-14 win against Indiana on Friday night.
Teammate Gabe Hein added a 48-yard punt return for a score for Mars (5-5, 4-1 in Greater Allegheny Conference play) and Ayden Yocum a 40-yard interception return for a touchdown. The latter also scored on-foot from five yards out.
North Catholic 55, Hopewell 43 — In a high-scoring tilt, the Trojans (4-6, 3-3 in Western Hills Conference play) held off a late Vikings push at North Park’s J.C. Stone Field. The win snaps North Catholic’s four-game skid and helps its case to be included in the postseason as a wildcard.
Slippery Rock 20, Mercer 0 — The banged-up Rockets (3-7) finished out their schedule with a non-conference road win against the Mustangs, thanks in part to the efforts of Sawyer Allen, Owen Long and Doug Popovec.
Allen blocked a second-quarter punt and returned it 48 yards for a touchdown, Long had 20 carries for 80 yards and a score, and Popovec a 1-yard ground touchdown.
Ridgway 68, Moniteau 31 — The Warriors (0-10) found the end zone more than they had in any prior game this season, but lost at home in their campaign finale.
Moniteau quarterback Trent Beachem was 17 for 36 for 342 yards and a touchdown through the air. Brendin Sankey had eight catches for 161 yards and a pair of scores, while Isaiah Thompson added four grabs for 117 yards and a touchdown of his own.
Blaine Jamison reeled in two passes, both for scores.
North Allegheny 38, Seneca Valley 0 — The Raiders (3-9, 3-6 in Quad County Conference play) managed just 110 yards in this rivalry loss. Chase Mazanek accounted for just under half of that output on the ground, going for 54 yards on 13 totes.
Shenango 49, Summit Academy 20 — The Knights (1-8, 0-6 in Big 7 Conference play) dropped their eighth in a row to wrap up their season. Summit Academy’s only win this year came in Week 1 at home against Frazier.
