Bread company to move bakery into former food store
MCKEES ROCKS — A bread company says it plans to expand production and nearly triple its workforce over the next three to five years.
Scott Baker, owner of 5 Generation Bakers, said he has purchased a former Bottom Dollar Food store in McKees Rocks for the company’s wholesale bakery.
The purchase is part of a $4 million expansion including a small retail market.
Baker started the company to sell Jenny Lee products after his family’s Jenny Lee Bakery closed in 2008 following 70 years in business, unable to recover from a Thanksgiving Day fire two years earlier.
Taris Vrcek, executive director for the McKees Rocks Community Development Corporation, says the new store will fill a hole left when Bottom Dollar Food closed in January.
