Real estate experts choose to make their home on Saxonburg’s Main Street
SAXONBURG — In the business of selling homes, Joyce Hutterer and husband Jack know better than most how important location is when choosing where to live.
The couple, now residing on Saxonburg’s Main Street, elected to live and raise five children in southeastern Butler County and wouldn’t have had it any other way.
“I grew up in Penn Township and went to Knoch High School,” Hutterer said. “Our five children also went to Knoch. We are probably the best proof of the area since we chose to raise our family and continue to live here.”
The couple have been in their current location, a former bed-and-breakfast on Main Street, for three years. As real estate agents, they see firsthand when new properties go on the market but continue to live and work in the area.
“We have moved several times before this but have always stayed within the Knoch School District,” Hutterer said.
The couple loves what the area has to offer and the closeness of the feeling of family within the area.
“One of the best things about living in Saxonburg is being a part of the community,” Hutterer said. “There is truly a sense of caring among the town and the area.”
The different businesses and the way the town is set up is a big plus to the couple.
“We love being able to walk to the local restaurants, the coffee shop, the little shops and boutiques, the library, the Saxonburg Museum or the ice cream shop,” Hutterer said.
One of those boutiques is housed on their property.
“Our commercial space is rented out to a charming boutique and the apartment is now an Airbnb,” Hutterer said.
The many events held on and around Main Street add to the attraction of living in this small town in southeastern Butler County. The events give those who live and work in the area the chance to meet their neighbors and get to know each other.
“The town of Saxonburg takes advantage of its Main Street by offering an amazing amount of events throughout the year. Holiday parades, Mingles on Main, the Carnival, seasonal shopping events, the 5K race, lunches and movies in the park. The list goes on and on,” Hutterer said.
The Hutterers, working in real estate for 35 years, are very involved in the area, taking part in different organizations and giving back to the area that they love.
“Jack and I are both very involved,” Hutterer said. “I am currently serving on Saxonburg council, and he serves on the historical architectural review board for the borough.”
The couple’s real estate office is located within a block of their home, so they make sure to give back to the business community by volunteering with the Saxonburg Area Business Association, Jack as treasurer and Joyce in her second year as president.
Since the couple’s children went to Knoch School District, and now six of their 11 grandchildren do, they stay involved with the district as well. Joyce is the current president of the South Butler Foundation program, an organization that gives out scholarships to Knoch High School seniors every year.
The couple can’t imagine leaving the area.
“It would be difficult,” Hutterer said.
With the family and friends they have in the area, the Hutterers are in the exact place they want to be.
