About 250 colorful characters marched down Butler’s Main Street on Oct. 28, 1970, for the city’s annual Halloween parade, many participants hoping to win one of the cash prizes awarded to unique or original costumes.

A group prize of $10 went to Pat, Mike and Laura Duffy and Linda Wagner, all of Sarver, for their rendition of the “Wizard of Oz” group. Other winning costumes were a baker, Mrs. Sankey, and her two gingerbread girls, Sharon Sankey and Lyn Morrow; Mike and Jim Gestrich for their “blind spider” duo costume; and two Martians, Cindy Jelkovac and Gary Weber.

The event, sponsored by the Butler City Recreation Board, was followed by two teen dances.
