Joyce Swigart
Joyce A. Swigart, 89, of Butler, passed away peacefully and went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2024. She has entered her heavenly rest and heard the words we all long to hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Joyce was born Oct. 16, 1935, to Paul and B. Grace (Moist) Yoder, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her were an infant son; sisters, Jean Espigh and Anna Yoder; an infant brother; and brothers-in law, Calvin Fisher, Sheldon French and Robert Espigh.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Alan Swigart; sisters, Ruth Fisher and Thelma French; her daughter, Kim Cassara (husband, Bill); her son, Mike Swigart (wife, Brenda); her four grandchildren, David Stilwell, Cody Swigart (wife, Rachel), Dixon Cassara (wife, Juliane) and Paige Cassara; and one great-granddaughter, Serafina Cassara (Dixon and Juliane).
Joyce cherished life with her four sisters growing up on the family dairy farm in Mattawana, Pa. She and her sisters remained close through their lives, but especially in their later years by insisting on a sisters’ vacation together each year for 24 years.
Starting and raising her own family brought Joyce to Butler in 1969. Joyce was extremely proud of her work as a paraprofessional for 27 years, teaching math at both the junior high school and Broad Street Elementary School.
Time with family and friends was precious to Joyce. She was loved by all who knew her for her kind and caring heart. She enjoyed camping with family and the BUCO club and playing cards, and she was a voracious reader.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the amazing AHN Palliative and Hospice nurses and caregiver teams who lovingly cared for Joyce in the last 10 months of her life.
