Huskies fall just short

SARNIA, Ontario — The Pittsburgh Huskies U18AA hockey team tied for fourth in the preliminary standings and missed advancing to the semifinals by a hundreth of a point at the International Silver Stick Tournament over the weekend.

Eric Phelps turned aside all 35 shots he faced and Eric Leya scored the lone goal in the Huskies’ 1-0 win over the Ajax Junior Knights, 41-6-4 and ranked No. 1 in Ontario Midget AA. Nick Whann and Nick Makozy assisted on the goal.

The Huskies dropped a 6-3 decision to the TNT Tornados (27-8-6, ranked No. 30 in Ontario AA) despite goals from Cody Krstonich, Mitchell Rupprecht and Dustin Davis.

Rupprecht and Davis scored twice each and Jake Miller added a goal as the Huskies defeated the Warwick Wildcats, 5-2. Warwick (30-3-3) was ranked No. 1 in the United States.

Phelps stopped 30 of 32 shots as the Huskies improved to 17-4-2 on the season.
