Theater to help tornado victims
ZELIENOPLE — The Strand Theater will show the movie “Twister” June 3-5 to help raise money for disaster relief in the recent tornado ravaged areas of the South and the Midwest.
A portion of the proceeds will go to the disaster relief fund of the American Red Cross.
There will be three showings of the film: 7:30 p.m. June 3 and 4; and 4 p.m. June 5.
All showings will be at the Strand at 119 N. Main St. Tickets, which can be bought at the door, are $6.
Two dollars from each ticket sold will go to the Red Cross.
The movie “Twister” shed light on the devastation caused by tornadoes and other natural disasters when it premiered more than 15 years ago.
According to Scott Snyder, executive director of the Red Cross in Butler County, since March 31, the Red Cross has launched 25 relief operations in 20 states where tornadoes and wildfires have wiped out entire communities.
Ron Carter, director of The Strand Theater, said, “We scheduled ‘Twister’ before the recent storm disasters, so it just made sense to reach out to the Red Cross and try to help those who have been so terribly affected. We are happy to have the chance to partner with such an outstanding organization.”
In addition to “Twister,” a short American Red Cross feature on tornadoes will play before each film showing.
