76ers rookie has broken bone in footBen Simmons has a broken bone in his right foot and its unknown how long the No. 1 overall pick will be sidelined for the Philadelphia 76ers.Simmons was injured Friday during the final training camp scrimmage at Stockton University in New Jersey. The Sixers said Simmons rolled an ankle, and X-rays and an MRI revealed a fractured fifth metatarsal bone.The Australian forward played at LSU last season. He missed time early during his stay with the Tigers while waiting for an ankle injury to heal, and also left an NBA Summer League contest in July after suffering cramps in both legs.

Vegas lawmakers to vote on stadiumLAS VEGAS — Two people who were appointed to the Nevada Legislature on Friday will play a significant role in whether a nearly $2 billion NFL stadium — and potentially the Raiders — come to Las Vegas.But the Clark County commissioners who nominated the candidates to fill two vacant seats said they were more concerned about whether their appointees would properly vet a plan to put $750 million in public money toward the 65,000-seat venue. Critics worry that in case of a downturn, taxpayers could be left holding the bag for the project that’s partially funded by billionaire casino owner and Republican mega-donor Sheldon Adelson.Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick said she and her recommended candidate, Democratic former Assemblywoman Stephanie Smith, “didn’t really have to talk about” Smith’s opinion of the stadium.

Rodon sets record for consecutive KsCHICAGO — Chicago White Sox left-hander Carlos Rodon tied an AL record by striking out the first seven Minnesota Twins batters Friday night.The 23-year-old Rodon matched the mark set by Joe Cowley of the White Sox on May 28, 1986, at Texas. The major league record to start a game is eight strikeouts set by Houston’s Jim Deshaies in 1986 and matched by Jacob deGrom of the New York Mets in 2014.Four of Rodon’s strikeouts came on sliders, two on fastballs and one on a changeup. He got John Ryan Murphy looking on a 97 mph fastball to lead off the third.
