CINCINNATI — Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Zack Greinke was announced as the starting pitcher for the National League in Tuesday night's All-Star Game and Houston Astros lefty Dallas Keuchel will be on the mound for the American League.
The 31-year-old Greinke is 8-2 with a big league-best 1.39 ERA and enters the game at Great American Ball Park following five straight scoreless starts over 35 2/3 innings. The 27-year-old Keuchel, with a distinctive long, bushy beard, is 11-4 with a 2.23 ERA.
The AL will open the game with an all right-handed-hitting lineup for the first time.
CHICAGO — Heading takes the heat in youth soccer, but limiting rough play might be a better way to prevent concussions and other injuries, a nine-year study of U.S. high school games suggests.More than 1 in 4 concussions studied occurred when players used their heads to hit the ball. But more than half of these heading-related concussions were caused by collisions with another player rather than with the ball. These collisions included head-to-head, elbow-to-head and shoulder-to-head contact, said Dawn Comstock, a University of Colorado public health researcher who led the study. There have been recent calls to ban or limit heading in youth soccer, particular among players younger than 14.
