An Adams Township family is trying to move forward after part of their home on Pearce Road was consumed by fire on Wednesday, Oct. 23.

“We were already struggling, so this kind of added to our already difficult financial situation,” said Heather King, who is raising four children in the home.

The fire started shortly after midnight that night, engulfing the room of Heather’s daughter, Lily. An investigation found that it was caused by a smartphone that was being charged.

While most of the house is still livable, she said, Lily’s room and nearly everything in it was a total loss. She did not have insurance.

A GoFundMe has been set up to aid the family. The fundraiser began on Saturday, Oct. 26. As of Thursday, Oct. 31, the GoFundMe has raised $840.
