Duquesne women hosting Richmond
PITTSBURGH — The Duquesne University women’s basketball team hosts Richmond at 7 p.m. today at the Palumbo Center in a second-round WNIT game.
The Dukes (22-10) defeated Youngstown State, 72-54, in the first round last week. Butler graduate and senior point guard Olivia Bresnahan scored 11 points, had six assists and two steals in that win.
Minto fighting in New Zealand
Butler boxer Brian Minto will be participating in an eight-man elimination professional cruiserweight tournament Saturday at Horncastle Arena in New Zealand.
The 40-year-old Minto (39-8) is the most experienced fighter in the tournament, which consists of three-round bouts. Each winner advances until a champion is determined.
Other experienced boxers in the field include Daniel Ammann (30-8-1) of Australia and Joseph Kwadjo (21-8) of Fiji.
SRU’s Butler earns all-region honors
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University senior guard Antonio Butler has been named second team All-Atlantic Region for his play this season.
Previously named first team All-PSAC West, Butler averaged 15.8 points per game, 5.9 rebounds per game, had 73 assists, 30 steals and blocked 10 shots.
He reached double figures in scoring in each of SRU’s final 24 games and helped The Rock attain a 21-11 record this season.
