Dolphins ahead in Suh sweepstakes

MIAMI — The Miami Dolphins have pulled ahead in the Ndamukong Suh sweepstakes, and their lead may be insurmountable.

The Dolphins were privately optimistic Sunday that they would seal a deal with the All-Pro defensive tackle shortly after free agency begins Tuesday. Suh’s multiyear contract is expected to reach nine figures and set a record for an NFL defensive player.

Eagles picking up RB Gore, Maxwell

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Eagles aren’t wasting any time filling major needs.

Two people familiar with the moves said five-time Pro Bowl running back Frank Gore, cornerback Byron Maxwell and quarterback Mark Sanchez agreed to contracts with the Eagles. Meanwhile, three people with knowledge of the deal said Pro Bowl wide receiver Jeremy Maclin is leaving the Eagles to rejoin former coach Andy Reid in Kansas City.

Jets RB Johnson shot in shoulder

ORLANDO, Fla. — New York Jets running back Chris Johnson and another passenger were shot in their shoulders while stopped at a traffic light in Orlando early Sunday morning, and the driver of the vehicle they were in was killed.

Sheriff’s deputies said another vehicle pulled up to the Jeep the men were in and opened fire. The Jeep’s driver, Dreekius Oricko Johnson, was killed.

McCoy, Bills agree on 5-year contract

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Running back LeSean McCoy has a new team and newly restructured five-year, $40 million contract with the Buffalo Bills.

McCoy’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, confirmed in a text to The Associated Press on Sunday that his client has agreed to the new contract.

Kentucky completes 31-0 regular season

LEXINGTON, Ky. — After downplaying the possibility of the achievement in recent weeks, top-ranked Kentucky finally embraced its milestone following the end of Saturday’s 67-50 victory over Florida.

The Wildcats gathered at midcourt and hurriedly donned blue T-shirts with “31-0 Not Done Yet” in white. For sure, they seek nine more wins to claim the ultimate achievement.
