The U.S. Secret Service released its mission assurance review of the July 13 campaign rally for former President Donald Trump and the attempted assassination that took place that day, which aligns with the Congressional task force also investigating the assassination attempt.

The review is limited to the security failures that led to the gunman being able to kill a Buffalo Township resident Corey Comperatore and injure three others on July 13, including Trump, and is not intended to address critical questions about the shooter, according to the task force.

“The Secret Service’s Mission Assurance Review offers answers that align with the Task Force’s own investigation into the agency’s security failures on July 13,” said a statement by the Congressional task force. “Many of the steps to improve security outlined in the Review appear to be headed in the right direction.

“However, the Secret Service still needs to take additional steps to create accountability and ensure that the mistakes that occurred on July 13 are not repeated.”

The Secret Service’s Office of Professional Responsibility, Inspection Division conducted the mission assurance inquiry which will be reviewed by the service’s Office of Integrity.
